Photos from 2016 NCERA221 Meeting at North Shore Country Club, 1340 Glenview Rd, Glenview, IL

Tuesday, May 31, 2016

All,

We’re three weeks out from meeting at North Shore Country Club!

We received good news yesterday; the NCERA_temp221 has been approved by the NCRA to start on 10/1/2016 as NCERA221.  The expiring version has been renamed NCERA_old221!  Thanks to the those of you (particularly Bruce Branham, Nick Christians, Roch Gaussian, and Chris Hamilton) that worked on the proposal and other paperwork.

I’ve attached (see linked here) a tentative meeting agenda - let me know if you have additions or changes.

Also attached (linked) is a template that describes what should be included in your State Reports.  Because Kansas State is scheduled to host next year’s meeting, a KSU rep will likely be this year's secretary.  The completed State Report Templates will make it easier for the KSU folks to prepare the minutes of this year’s meeting.  Please send me one copy from each participating institution for compiling.

Please be sure to register for the meeting and reserve lodging.

Meeting Registration
The Illinois Turfgrass Foundation (ITF) is co-hosting the meeting, and we’re running registrations through them.  The link is:
http://iturf.org/event-2222563
Registration is 50.00 for graduate students and $100.00 for all other attendees and includes breaks, lunch, and dinner reception on June 21, and beverages on the morning of June 22.  If you have registration questions or require different payment arrangements, please contact me (217-333-7847) or Luke Cella, ITF Executive Director (630-685-2420).

Lodging Reservations
Crowne Plaza Chicago-Northbrook (2875 North Milwaukee Avenue, Northbrook, IL  60062).  This hotel is approximately a 15-minute drive from North Shore C.C.  Rooms for 1-4 guests are $109.00 (plus taxes and fees) per night and includes a buffet breakfast.  Telephone 847.298.2525 by June 1 and use code “UOI" to receive the meeting rate.  This rate is good for the night of June 17 through June 23 checkout.

More to follow.
Thanks!
Tom

NCERA 221: Turfgrass and the Environment – Annual Meeting

Meeting Dates: June 17-19, 2014

Meeting Location: The meeting will take place at Purdue University at the W. H. Daniel Turfgrass Research and Diagnostic Center in West Lafayette, IN.

http://www.ihg.com/holidayinn/hotels/us/en/lafayette/lafin/hoteldetail
We have a room block reserved. Ask for the NCERA room block. The negotiated rate is $110+tax/night.
We anticipate being able to provide a shuttle service (vans) if needed from the hotel to the turf center but there is plenty of parking at the turf center if you would like to drive yourself.

Flights: If you need to fly to Indiana, it is best to fly into the Indianapolis airport (IND) and rent a car (available at the airport) for the 1 hour and 20 minute drive to campus.

Special arrangements: If you have any special dietary needs or requests, please contact us in advance and we will try to accommodate you.

Opportunities for your family: In addition to touring Purdue’s campus there are many historical sites in West Lafayette/Lafayette/Battleground, Indiana that your families might enjoy such as Wolf Park, Tippecanoe Battlefield and Museum and Prophetstown State Park. A Visitors Guide is available (click here) so that you can consider the possibilities and whether or not you might want to make a family trip out of this opportunity.

Presentation Volunteers: At this point the schedule has some flexibility. We are requesting volunteers to present 15-30 minute updates on new technology or methodology for data collection and/or analysis or an update about an area of your research/teaching/extension program that could benefit the group as a whole. You can volunteer yourself and/or send suggestions to me about potential topics to ajpatton@purdue.edu by 25 May.

Reports: We will forego the oral state reports in favor of brief written reports. Please complete the blank state report form at http://ncera221.blogspot.com/p/state-reports.html and send it to ajpatton@purdue.edu by 10 June. Previous year combined state reports are also available at this link.
